BKD Names New Leader for Telecommunications Practice

Springfield, Mo.-based BKD, an IPA 100 firm, has named partner Cheryl Clauson as the new leader of the firm’s telecommunications practice.

Clauson has extensive telecommunications experience among her more than 25 years in the profession. Among other duties, she has helped clients develop new business ventures and improve the financial performance of existing services, managed telecommunication company audits and provided services related to acquisition due diligence procedures in the industry.

BKD Christens New Transfer Pricing Services Division in Utah

Springfield, Mo.-based BKD, an IPA 100 firm, is launching a new transfer pricing services division in its Salt Lake City office. Led by Levi Brewer with support from Will James, the new division will help clients engaging in cross-border transactions with planning analyses, documentation studies, dispute resolution, economic analyses, advance pricing agreements and more.

BKD Names New MP for Transaction Advisory Services

Chris Dalton

Springfield, Mo.-based BKD, an IPA 100 firm, has named Chris Dalton the new MP of the firm’s transaction advisory services practice effective June 1. He assumes the position from Jerry Henderson, who will be stepping into a new leadership role.

Dalton has almost 16 years of experience in merger and acquisition services and is currently the national practice leader for the firm’s transaction services. He has extensive experience in financial due diligence analysis, transaction structuring, deal negotiation support and post-transaction planning assistance in a wide variety of industries.

“Chris has demonstrated outstanding leadership of our TS practice, having helped fuel double-digit growth for each of the last several years while maintaining excellent financial discipline,” says Henderson. “His skills will be extremely valuable as we navigate through the short- and long-term impacts of the COVID-19 crisis.

BKD Makes Big Data and Analytics a Firmwide Practice Unit

Springfield, Mo.-based BKD, an IPA 100 firm, is making big data and analytics a new national practice unit called BKD Analytics effective June 1, elevating the group from its current status as a team within the firm’s forensics and valuation services division.

While continuing to work closely on fraud investigations under the guidance of Mark Solomon as interim practice unit leader, BKD Analytics will now also consult with various industry leaders to create new data products and bring those products to market.

Jerry Henderson Takes Over National Advisory Services at BKD

Springfield, Mo.-based BKD, an IPA Top 100 firm, announced that Jerry Henderson will succeed the retiring Mike Burlew in the role of regional managing partner for the firm’s national advisory services (NAS) practice effective June 1.

A member of BKD’s governing board with more than 30 years of experience in the profession, Henderson currently serves as MP for the firm’s transaction advisory services and performance advisory services.

BKD Launches New National Commercial Services Group

Springfield, Mo.-based BKD, an IPA Top 100 firm, will change the name of its National Manufacturing & Distribution Group to BKD National Commercial Services Group effective June 1. The change reflects how this group has been growing to deliver services to companies beyond the traditional M&D industry.

Traditional M&D, food and agriculture, transportation and retail will be the four main divisions under the umbrella of BKD National Commercial Services Group, while technology and software, energy and telecommunications already have separate service line leaders and will be tracked as separate subniches.

BKD Merges in CampbellWilson

Springfield, Mo.-based BKD LLP (FY18 net revenue of $662.9 million) will acquire health care regulatory consulting firm CampbellWilson of Dallas effective June 1.

BKD will expand its health care practice by taking on CampbellWilson’s proprietary physician time study system, which assists hospitals in capturing reimbursable expenses on Medicare and Medicaid cost reports. BKD will also welcome CampbellWilson’s 10 staff members to its team in Dallas-Fort Worth.

“With the addition of CampbellWilson, BKD will strengthen what’s already one of the largest health care consulting teams in Texas,” says Chris Clark, BKD’s health care industry leader for the couth region. “We’re especially excited about launching the time study system with our clients firmwide, giving us another chance to provide unmatched client service.”

BKD Takes on Part of Grant Thornton’s Municipal Government Audit Practice

Springfield, Mo.-based BKD LLP (FY18 net revenue of $662.9 million) has reached an agreement with Chicago-based Grant Thornton (FY18 net revenue of $1.87 billion) to acquire a portion of the latter’s municipal government audit practice, most of which is based in Texas and Oklahoma. BKD will also acquire several not-for-profit (NFP), commercial and benefit plan clients in the transaction, providing a boost to one of the firm’s fastest-growing niches.

As part of the deal, BKD is admitting three new partners: Ben Kohnle joined the firm’s Dallas office effective April 1; Angie Dunlap will join the Houston office on June 15; and Dan Barron will join the Dallas office on Aug. 15.

“We’re excited about the clients that Ben, Dan and Angie will bring to BKD, and we also see tremendous promise in their abilities to help us grow our public sector practice, especially with large cities and public universities,” says BKD CEO Ted Dickman. “The South region’s public sector and NFP practice has grown nearly 14% in FY 2020 so far, and adding this new talent will help us maintain our momentum into 2021 and beyond.”
