MBAF Promotes Marc Freeman to Principal

Marc Freeman has been promoted to principal in the tax and accounting department of Miami-based MBAF (FY14 net revenue of $89 million). Freeman previously served as a director at the firm and is based in MBAF’s Miami headquarters. The announcement was made by Tony Argiz, chairman and CEO.

Since 1997, Freeman has brought his expertise and insights on the complexities of tax accounting to the firm. He is well-versed in all aspects of tax preparation and compliance, and has developed particular expertise in responding to the unique tax and accounting needs of partnerships and corporations, with an emphasis on domestic tax planning.

Grethell Anasagasti, has been promoted to principal in the tax and accounting department of Miami-based MBAF (FY14 net revenue of $89 million). Anasagasti previously served as a director at the firm and is based in MBAF’s Miami headquarters.

As a principal, she specializes in flow-through entities, particularly in complex partnership transactions for companies in various industries, including real estate, retail and wholesale/distribution. She also specializes in tax services for high-net-worth individuals.

MBAF Announces Addition of Kane & Company

Miami-based MBAF (FY13 net revenue of $84.2 million) announced that Miami-based Kane & Company has joined the firm, effective Feb. 20. The announcement was made by Tony Argiz, chairman and CEO of MBAF and Monte Kane, founder of Kane & Company. The expanded firm will have more than $89 million in annual revenue and 473 employees across the country.

The joining of Kane & Company with MBAF will drive new business opportunities and expand the firm’s practice area expertise and services for clients. MBAF will acquire 21 professionals from Kane & Company, and an increased presence in the condominium and association industry niche. The firm will continue to focus on tax and accounting, audit, technology consulting, litigation support, business valuation, risk management, mergers and acquisitions, fiscal and infrastructure consulting, trusts and estates and private wealth services.

Kane & Company’s technology advisors will join WhiteOwl, MBAF’s technology affiliate. WhiteOwl provides business process consulting services leveraging enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management and cloud service for more than 1,000 growing businesses globally. WhiteOwl and Fiscal Management Associates, a consulting firm dedicated to strengthening nonprofit’s financial and operational health, form MBAF’s affiliate network, increasing the firm’s scope of services for clients.

Lisa Montejo has been admitted as chief marketing officer (CMO) at Miami-based MBAF (FY13 net revenue of $84.2 million).

Montejo joins MBAF with more than 20 years of experience developing and implementing strategic and tactical marketing initiatives designed to drive growth, market awareness and brand recognition for global and national professional services firms. In her role as CMO, Montejo will lead MBAF’s marketing team in creating and executing a cohesive marketing, brand and communications strategy that includes digital marketing and direct sales support, events and community relations.

“With a proven track record in communications, business development and brand marketing, Lisa is a valuable asset to both our firm and our executive leadership team,” says Tony Argiz, chairman and CEO of MBAF. “She has extensive experience in marketing for professional services firms and a deep knowledge of the accounting industry. Prior to joining MBAF, Montejo served as the director of marketing for a national public accounting firm and has held marketing positions at other global professional services firms.

Shaji Varghese has joined Miami-based MBAF (FY13 net revenue of $84.2 million) as an audit practice leader for commercial and financial services in the Northeast.

Varghese joins MBAF with more than 25 years of experience providing audit services to public companies and clients in the commercial and financial services industries. His expertise includes working with software/technology companies, investment partnerships, mutual funds, venture capital funds, hedge funds, offshore funds, investment advisors, broker-dealers and private equity funds to provide audit services, due diligence work and manage process improvement projects.

Sanchez brings more than 25 years of experience in accounting and financial recruiting in South Florida, and he will oversee all professional recruiting functions at MBAF. He will be responsible for developing outreach strategies to secure new talent within the firm’s practice areas: tax and accounting, assurance, advisory services, technology consulting and private wealth.

David Rosenbaum has joined Miami-based MBAF (FY13 net revenue of $84.2 million) as a principal in the tax and accounting department. Rosenbaum will be based in the firm’s Miami office.

Rosenbaum brings more than 40 years of experience in public practice, and as principal he will provide accounting, estate, and income tax and consulting services to a variety of industries including law firms, real estate, health care, other professional services organizations and mergers and acquisitions. Additionally, he will provide advisory services to entrepreneurs and growth-related companies and wealth preservation/asset protection for high-net-worth individuals and professional firms.

“David’s knowledge of high-level accounting and consulting spans several key industries that are highly valuable to our clients,” says Miguel Farra, chairman of MBAF’s tax and accounting department. “We are pleased to welcome him to our headquarters in Miami.”

Rosenbaum has served as an expert witness in various cases related to valuation and economic law issues relating to commercial litigation, and is an experienced litigation consultant. Prior to joining MBAF, he provided high-level accounting services to clients in several industries, and served as the managing director of a South Florida CPA firm.

Alfredo De Zayas has been promoted to principal in the tax and accounting department of Miami-based MBAF (FY13 net revenue of $84.2 million). Based in the Miami office and with more than 30 years of experience in the accounting profession, De Zayas previously served as a director in the firm’s tax and accounting department.

As a principal, De Zayas will specialize in international tax, focusing his practice on issues arising in international transactions, cross-border transfers, mergers and acquisitions, transfer pricing, offshore voluntary disclosures, foreign investments in U.S. real property and businesses, as well as outbound transfers.

“Since joining MBAF in 2011, Alfredo’s extensive experience in public accounting and knowledge of a variety of practice areas have proven to be a valuable asset for the firm,” says Miguel Farra, chairman of the tax and accounting department.

In De Zaya’s previous role as director of MBAF’s tax and accounting department, he represented clients before the IRS, while providing tax and compliance services on federal income, estate and gift tax to domestic and international clients. He has extensive experience in various industries including broker-dealers, hedge funds, private equity funds, professional services firms, real estate, shipping, telecommunications and wholesale/distribution.

Miami-based MBAF (FY13 net revenue of $84.2 million) has named Miguel Farra to chairman of the tax and accounting department, overseeing the firm’s nine offices. Emilio Escandon has been named PIC, tax and accounting national operations. The announcements were made by Tony Argiz, chairman and CEO of MBAF.

“MBAF’s continued growth depends on strategically leveraging the unique capabilities of our nine offices to provide our clients with increased access to a wide range of expertise, enabling our principals to utilize more resources within the firm, and ultimately strengthen our position in the accounting industry,” says Argiz. “Miguel and Emilio not only bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the tax and accounting department, but have consistently guided their teams to success, and I congratulate them on their new roles.”

Farra is based in the firm’s Miami headquarters, where he previously served as PIC of the tax and accounting department. As chairman of the department, Farra will lead MBAF’s team of tax professionals working with clients both domestically and internationally in a variety of industries. He brings more than 38 years of experience working with public corporations and high-net-worth individuals, as well as forensic accounting expertise and experience serving as an expert witness in divorce and commercial litigation cases.

Escandon will remain based in the firm’s New York office, where he will continue to serve as the PIC of the tax and accounting practice for the Northeast Region. In his new role, he will oversee all operational matters related to the tax and accounting department. He will develop and execute strategies to maximize cross-utilization of the firm’s tax professionals throughout the different offices. Additionally, he will be in charge of maintaining all standard policies and procedures, and identifying and sharing continuing education opportunities for the firm’s employees.
