Jason Rauhe Joins Skoda Minotti to Lead International Tax Group

Mayfield Village, Ohio-based Skoda Minotti (FY14 net revenue of $44 million) has announced the addition of Jason W. Rauhe to its tax planning and preparation group.

Rauhe will lead the international tax services group, providing international tax consulting, strategic tax planning and corporate tax support services. He has more than 17 years of international tax experience with corporations and accounting firms. Previously, he was principal and owner of Cornerstone Tax Consulting in Novi, Mich.

Skoda Minotti Admits Swain as Tax Partner

Mayfield Village, Ohio-based Skoda Minotti (FY13 net revenue of $40.3 million) announced that Scott Swain has been admitted to its tax planning and preparation group. Swain will serve as partner and work with individual clients, flow-through entities, LLCs, partnerships and S Corps. In addition, he will assist clients of Skoda Minotti financial services and wealth management.

Swain has more than 20 years of experience working in the financial services industry, including more than 11 years focused on planning for high-net-worth individuals. He specializes in income and estate tax planning for individuals and has a wealth of practical experience working with trusts, family partnerships and other entities from an estate planning perspective.

Swain joins Skoda Minotti from a local advisory firm, where he was a senior managing director involved with tax planning, estate and gift planning, trusts and high-net-worth family investment portfolios.

Saari has been with the firm for 10 years. He specializes in valuations for business transitions, divorce and domestic relations, financial reporting, litigation, tax and mergers and acquisitions, and has authored more than 50 articles, e-books, blogs and whitepapers. He is a regular columnist to Cleveland-area monthly business magazines.

Skoda Minotti Acquires Forensic Accounting Firm

Mayfield Village, Ohio-based Skoda Minotti (FY13 net revenue of $40.3 million) announced the acquisition of Howard L. Klein Co. CPAs of Beachwood, Ohio.

Howard Klein, with 34 years of experience in forensic and bankruptcy accounting, will serve as a partner in the firm’s Valuation and Litigation Advisory Group. Klein has investigated white-collar crimes and testified as an expert witness in numerous civil and criminal matters. He has worked with the FBI, SEC, FDIC, SIPC and the Department of Labor. Prior to owning his own firm, he was an auditor with Ernst & Young and a partner with a local CPA firm.

“Howard’s expertise in forensic accounting and depth of experience with high-profile cases will strengthen our capabilities and allow us to continue to meet the growing needs of our clients,” says Gregory Skoda, chairman of the firm.

Klein, with 34 years of experience in forensic and bankruptcy accounting, will join the firm as a partner in the firm’s Valuation and Litigation Advisory Group. Klein has investigated white-collar crimes and testified as an expert witness in numerous civil and criminal matters.

Klein is currently the forensic accountant for the trustee for Fair Finance, a $200 million Ponzi scam, and served as a fee examiner in the Enron bankruptcy case. Prior to owning his own firm, he was an auditor with Ernst & Ernst and a partner with a local CPA firm.

Skoda Minotti Completes Merger with Dowell & Perez

Mayfield Village, Ohio-based Skoda Minotti (FY11 net revenue of $21.3 million) has merged with Dowell & Perez, making Tampa, Fla., its second-largest business market, the Tampa Bay Business Journal reported. This is the firm’s second Tampa merger in less than a year, as Skoda Minotti completed a merger with Baumann Raymondo & Co. this February. “Good things are happening in Tampa, and we are excited to join Skoda Minotti,” says Dan Dowell, who will serve as co-PIC with Skoda Minotti partner Alex White. Dowell & Perez is the ninth firm to merge with Skoda Minotti since 2012. Others include Lomax Soful & Foster of Akron, Ohio, and Ohio-based IT firms Quantum Network Services and DataServ.

Skoda Minotti’s Technology Group Merges in DataServ

The technology services niche group of Mayfield Village, Ohio-based Skoda Minotti (FY11 net revenue of $21.32 million), Skoda Minotti Technology Partners has merged with Cleveland-based DataServ. The merged company will be known as DataServ, a Skoda Minotti Technology Firm, and Karl Seiler will serve as president of the company.

It will provide managed, shared and stand-alone technology services for network, wireless, telephony, video surveillance, interactive collaboration and online productivity tools, including backup and disaster recovery, cloud solutions, hardware and software sales.

Skoda Minotti Acquires Tampa Firm

Skoda Minotti MP Greg Skoda, said of the move: “This allows us to enhance our service to our clients and also provides us the opportunity to grow and expand upon the excellent reputation that Baumann Raymondo has created for their office in this region.”

Ohio Firm, Skoda Minotti Acquires Tax Practice

Mayfield Village, Ohio-based Skoda Minotti (FY11 net revenue of $21.3 million) acquired the tax firm of Gerald M. Appel, CPA, Inc. Through this merger, Gerald Appel and his team join the firm’s tax planning and preparation department.

Appel’s firm specialized in catering to companies in the healthcare, manufacturing and real estate and construction industries.

“Jerry’s significant industry experience will undoubtedly complement our existing ability to provide CPA, business and financial advisory services to our clients,” says Greg Skoda, chairman of SM. “Joining Skoda Minotti will give our clients access to a new depth of accounting and business advisory expertise,” Appel says. “Beyond the traditional accounting services, we’re excited to offer our clients access to niche service offerings such information technology, marketing and staffing that can help them take their businesses to the next level.”
