Kelli Winter Named Tidwell Group’s New PIC of Audit and Assurance

Birmingham, Ala.-based Tidwell Group (FY18 net revenue of $24.1 million) announces that Kelli Winter is the new PIC of audit and assurance.

With extensive experience in real estate and construction accounting, Winter has played an integral role in the audit engagements for affordable housing partnerships financed through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Additionally, her areas of expertise include budgeting, forecasting and mergers, and acquisitions.

Tidwell Group Adds Six Partners

Birmingham Ala.-based Tidwell Group (FY18 net revenue of $24.1 million), which specializes in affordable housing accounting, announces that it has admitted the following professionals to the partnership: Patty Azallion, William Brookshire, Damien Cassell, Andy Gantzer, Chris Ofat and Jeanne-Marie Smith.

All are based in Columbus, Ohio, except Brookshire and Smith, who are based in Birmingham.

  • Azallion brings over 30 years of experience in accounting and assurance services to the Tidwell Group. She has expertise in internal controls analysis and risk assessment, substantive testing, cash flow and revenue/expense analysis, and preparation of financial statements.
  • Brookshire has more than 12 years of experience with audit, accounting and tax services for multi-family real estate owners, developers and contractors. He brings expertise in the low-income housing and historic tax credits, USDA rural development projects, and final cost certifications to the firm.
  • Cassell offers extensive experience in audit and tax services within a variety of industries, including affordable housing, not-for-profit, manufacturing, construction and real estate.
  • Gantzer is expert in the affordable housing industry, specifically in the areas of auditing the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program, U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD), not-for-profit and USDA Rural Development.
  • Ofat has a deep understanding of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program and expertise in the preparation and review of contractor cost certifications. He also has experience in the preparation and review of HUD and Rural Development audit engagements.
  • Smith’s experience is in the real estate industry with specializations in Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and HUD-financed projects. She also has extensive experience in real estate development engagements.

Birmingham, Ala.-based Tidwell Group (FY17 net revenue of $15.2 million) continues its expansion with the promotion of two new partners and a principal.

Tidwell Group has admitted Jeremy Densmore and Wayne Jordan as partners and Chris Bailey as a principal. Each has established themselves as industry leaders in their respective specialties and will continue their important contributions as the newest members of Tidwell Group’s leadership team.

Densmore is an assurance partner in the Atlanta office. He has extensive experience in Section 42 low income housing tax credit projects, consulting with real estate developers with an emphasis in partnership audits, the tax credit application process and engagements subject to the audit requirements of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Jordan is a partner and the CIO at Tidwell Group. His responsibilities for the firm include a wide variety of strategic technology initiatives, governance and policy, resource allocation, information technology protocols and the Tidwell Information Technology organization.

Bailey is a principal for the audit team in the Columbus, Ohio office at Tidwell Group. He has more than 15 years of experience in the accounting industry, providing services for both public and privately held companies. He plays an integral role in the audit process for not-for-profit organizations as well as HUD, Rural Development and Section 42 low income housing tax credit projects.

Birmingham, Ala.-based Tidwell Group (FY16 net revenue of $11.3 million) admitted Quinn Gormley as a partner in the Austin, Texas office.

Gormley has 25 years of experience in commercial real estate development with a focus on affordable housing, tax oriented investments and economic development. He also has experience in structured financing including conventional and tax-exempt revenue bond transactions.

Prior to his current position, Gormley was the director of real estate consulting at a large CPA firm. Through his diverse experience within the industry, he has successfully provided multi-level oversight on the development of more than 6,000 units of multi-family and single family affordable housing.

Birmingham, Ala.-based Tidwell Group (FY16 net revenue of $11.3 million), 2017 INSIDE Public Accounting’s fastest growing firm, opened a Columbus, Ohio office. With this expansion, they also admitted three new partners to their team: Todd Fentress, Aram Moore and Kevin Allmandinger.

In Jan. 2018, Fentress joined Tidwell Group as the OMP. He has experience in the affordable housing industry, helping clients develop real estate projects in the Midwest. He also has experience consulting with federal and state government sponsored programs.

Tidwell Group to Move Atlanta Office

Scott Reeves is a member of the firm’s assurance, affordable real estate practice and commercial real estate practice. Based in Atlanta, he works closely with clients in planning, performing and supervising audit and assurance engagements. He has advised both publicly traded and privately held companies in a wide variety of sectors, including affordable housing, construction, real estate investment trusts, private equity funds, real estate syndicators and mortgage lenders.

Ashley Prendergast specializes in real estate taxation, nonprofit organizations and affordable housing. She has extensive experience in tax planning and compliance for multifamily real estate, commercial real estate and construction companies, as well as oversees implementation of cost segregation studies. Prendergast is also a key member of the firm’s tax leadership team, serving as a trainer and mentor.

Bart Parry is a member of the firm’s assurance and affordable real estate practice in Atlanta where he counsels a wide range of for-profit and not-for-profit clients on audit issues related to affordable real estate. In addition to addressing daily client needs, Parry supervises audit testing and reviews financial statements for GAAP and compliance reporting requirements. His significant experience includes advising clients on issues related to compliance with Department of Housing and Urban Development regulations.

Weaver and Tidwell Launches New Name and Brand Identity

Fort Worth, Texas-based Weaver and Tidwell’s (FY09 net revenue of $58.1 million) Tommy Lawler, MP and CEO, announces the a firm name and firm-wide launch of a branding campaign for Weaver LLP, formerly Weaver and Tidwell, LLP.

The new name, Weaver, brand identity and logo, officially unveiled at the October 23 staff meeting, will be used in redesigned collateral, on the firm’s Web site, in an upcoming ad campaign and other communications mediums. It will be seen throughout the firm’s five Texas offices.

The firm’s new brand identity further differentiates Weaver from its competitors and reflects the forward momentum of the firm and its dedication to delivering to its clients: talented and experienced professionals, deep niche experience, a proven service model, a corporate culture and a value system that reflect its commitment to clients. The identity will be adopted by both the CPA firm, and its affiliate financial advisory firm, Weaver Tidwell Wealth Management.

Former Tidwell Dewitt Leaves the Reznick Group Family

Twenty-two months after merging their 50-person Birmingham, Ala. practice into The Reznick Group (FY09 net revenue of $257.8 million), former Tidwell DeWitt (FY06 net revenue of $13.7 million) MP Barry Tidwell announced today that they have broken away from Reznick and will form a new firm

“It is a very amicable parting and makes sense for both parties”, says Tidwell. “We believe that Birmingham is growing as a middle market business area, which is the Tidwell Group niche,” he says. “We felt this was an appropriate time to position ourselves to serve the expansion of these type businesses in the community and throughout the state, and additionally we will continue to serve real estate and construction groups due to our established and proven experience.”

25 employees from the Birmingham, office, including four partners, made the transition. The new firm will be named Tidwell Group LLC.

Weaver and Tidwell Opens Up Office, Names New MP

 

Fort Worth, Texas-based Weaver and Tidwell (FY08 net revenue of $50.7 million) opened up an office in Austin. This marks the first expansion for WT into the Austin market.

 

“As a firm that serves businesses with interests throughout Texas, we are very excited about this expansion,” says W.M. “Mack” Lawhon, WT’s MP and CEO. “Having a presence in Austin is a natural progression associated with our recent merger in San Antonio and has been a priority for us. This will now allow us to be available on a local basis to clients who have offices in Central and South Texas.”

 

Gary McIntosh, has been named Austin executive partner and Timothy Dowling will join the firm as a senior manager. “We are very excited Gary is leading our Austin practice and to have Tim joining our team,” Lawhon says. “Gary’s and Tim’s long-established experience and involvement in the Austin community supports Weaver and Tidwell’s growth in that market.”

 

Prior to joining WT to open the Austin office, McIntosh was a partner with Brown, Graham & Company.

 

The firm also named Tommy Lawler MP, effective June 1. Lawler succeeds Lawhon who held the position for more than 23 years. Kerry Caves was also named to the COO position, previously held by Lawler.
