DMJ & Co. Joins Geneva Group International

Greensboro, N.C.-based DMJ & Co. (FY18 net revenue of $13.4 million) has joined Geneva Group International (GGI), an international accounting, consulting and law firm alliance.

DMJ, joining as an independent member, is the only accounting firm in the GGI network in North Carolina. The firm offers wealth management services, medical and dental practice consulting, technology and international tax consulting, cost segregation, ERISA audits and succession planning for private businesses.

Through GGI, DMJ can access more than 26,000 experts on local regulations, compliance and go-to-market strategies, GGI says. The alliance has over 540 members with some 740 offices in 120 countries.

DMJ, which has additional offices in Durham, Sanford and Wilmington, N.C., is also a member of CPAmerica.

DMJ Announces Acquisition of Miller & Company

Greensboro, N.C.-based DMJ & Co. (FY18 net revenue of $13.4 million) announced that Wilmington, N.C.-based Miller & Company will join forces Nov. 1.

Miller & Company has been a staple in the Wilmington region since 1993 serving the accounting needs of small businesses and individuals. By joining with DMJ, the Wilmington office will continue to serve clients in the coastal Cape Fear area with the added resources of a larger firm.

Miller & Company stockholders Sandra Miller and Rebecca Rhodes will continue with the combined firm, and Gregory Miller will become the DMJ PIC of the Wilmington office. All CPA and staff positions will remain. The combined firm will now employ more than 85 people, including 11 partners.

“When your name is on the door, as it has been for the past 25-plus years, you take seriously your commitment to your clients and to the CPA profession,” says Gregory Miller. “We may change our name, but we will not change how we serve our clients and treat our business partners. The expansion now means a DMJ presence in southeastern North Carolina and the firm’s fourth office in the state, in addition to Greensboro, Durham and Sanford. In addition, this merger brings new services to the region with DMJ’s experience in health care consulting and wealth management through DMJ Wealth Advisors. Together, the firms will continue to provide the traditional services with deeper practice areas in international tax consulting, litigation support, succession planning, audit and reviews, among others.

DMJ Announces Professional Promotions

Greensboro, N.C.-based DMJ & Co. (FY18 net revenue of $13.3 million) announces several promotions in its headquarters office.

Alicia Williams has been promoted to chief human resources officer. She joined DMJ in 2011 as a human resources administrator. She specializes in talent management, customer service, deferred compensation, employee benefit design and new hire orientations.

Caren Rodriguez has been promoted to chief marketing officer. She joined DMJ in 2006 as a director of marketing. She manages firm-wide marketing and business development initiatives that span three office locations across North Carolina. Her responsibilities include communications, public relations, brand development, strategic and industry partnerships, marketing strategy and digital media efforts.

Shirley Weigel, a partner, has been promoted to chief operating officer. She joined DMJ in 1990. She has worked in the accounting and auditing department and was admitted to the partnership in January 2011. She is responsible for planning and supervising engagements of various businesses in the areas of distribution, non-profit organizations, manufacturing, professional services and construction.

DMJ Admits Miller to Partnership

Greensboro, N.C.-based DMJ & Co. PLLC (FY17 net revenue of $12.5 million) announced that Susan Miller was admitted as partner, effective July 1. Miller will also serve as the PIC of the firms Durham, N.C., office.

Miller has worked in DMJ’s Durham office since 2005. She has spent her entire career in public accounting, spanning more than 25 years. She specializes in individual and corporate tax, as well as business consulting through tax consulting and compliance engagements. She works directly with a variety of clients in the service, medical, retail, and construction industries.

Phil Hutchings will continue his work with DMJ’s Durham office for the foreseeable future; however, he will transition to a reduced workload.

DMJ Welcomes Leader of Strategic Finance and Outsourced Accounting Division

Greensboro, N.C.-based DMJ & Co. (FY16 net revenue of $10 million) welcomed Scott Wells, as a consultant to lead the strategic finance and outsourced accounting division, where he will work with industry financial professionals and their owners.

Wells has more than 20 years of experience in guiding management accounting, finance, and processes. He also has significant experience with internal management reporting, compliance and restructuring through mergers or growth.

DMJ’s strategic finance and outsourced accounting division is a specialized consulting service effectively serving a range of industry areas, including manufacturing, distribution, transportation, professional services, family business and finance. Strategic finance and outsourced accounting engagements may also provide consultative controllership and CFO services, both interim and ongoing; strategic planning and budgeting; and audit preparation and readiness. These services allow business owners or financial professionals to focus on long-term goals or more efficient business needs.

DMJ & Co. Announces Acquisition of Hutchings & Hutchings

Greensboro, N.C.-based DMJ & Co. (FY15 net revenue of $9.6 million), announced that it has acquired Hutchings & Hutchings Certified Public Accountants of Durham, N.C. Hutchings & Hutchings will assume the DMJ name, effective Nov. 1.

Hutchings & Hutchings, a third-generation firm, was established in the 1930s by Philip W. Hutchings Sr. In 1984, Philip Hutchings III assumed leadership, growing the practice to focus on tax compliance and tax planning, and developing strong relationships among industry leaders and individuals including physicians and health care professionals, professional services, hospitality and real estate, among others. He will continue with DMJ as principal. All staff positions will be retained.

“We are very excited to join forces with DMJ,” says Phil Hutchings. “DMJ is a dynamic firm that shares our values and commitment to quality. People come first, and DMJ shares this sentiment. It’s important that relationships remain intact.”

The combined firm will now employ more than 73 people, including 10 partners.

The Hutchings acquisition will now extend DMJ’s presence statewide with office locations in the Triad, the Triangle and the Sandhills regions. DMJ Wealth Advisors Names Jeff Hwang Partner

Jeff Hwang has been admitted as a partner at DMJ Wealth Advisors of Greensboro, N.C.

“Jeff is committed to providing our clients the highest quality advice and service,” says partner Chuck Carrick.  “Jeff has done a tremendous job understanding what is most important to them.”

Hwang joined the firm in 2009. He assists medical and dental practice owners, business owners and retirees navigate complex issues as they transition through their financial lives.

Hwang is a graduate of Leadership North Carolina, a program in which selected members come together from across the state to inform, develop and engage committed leaders. He is also a member of the North Carolina Medical Group Managers Association (MGMA) and serves as president of the Greater Greensboro Medical Group Managers.

DMJ Names Jonathan Peddrick as Partner

Greensboro, N.C.-based DMJ & Co. (FY14 net revenue of $9.3 million) has announced the admission of Jonathan T. Peddrick to partner.

Peddrick specializes in management consulting for the healthcare industry and joined DMJ in 2007.

“Jonathan has done a tremendous job leading our healthcare clients through a complex time for medical and dental practices. We are confident he will have continued growth and success in his expanded role at DMJ,” says DMJ MP Mike Gillis.

Peddrick works with more than 40 medical and dental practices throughout North Carolina and has managed multiple practice transition and start-up arrangements. He has been recognized by the Triad Business Journal as a “40 Leaders Under 40” winner.

North Carolina Firm Adds Partners to Tax Practice

Haddock, based in the Sanford, N.C., office, handles tax planning and compliance for corporations, partnerships and individuals, especially closely held businesses within the dealership, manufacturing, distribution and real estate industries.

Jarmusch, based in Greensboro, has been with the firm since 2007 and has over 30 years of experience in both industry and public accounting. He works directly with both corporate and individual clients on their tax consulting, compliance and preparation needs as well as small business consulting and QuickBooks assistance.
