Herman has 30 years of operational management, strategic and financial leadership experience with a diverse background in accounting, finance, treasury, compliance, information technology security, risk management, human resources and commercial transactions (M&A).

Prior to joining Whitley Penn, Herman served as finance director for TOTAL’s TEP Barnett USA subsidiary and as CFO for Newark E&P Operating and First American Payment Systems.

Iannelli to Lead New Strategic Consulting Services Practice for Whitley Penn

Fort Worth, Texas-based Whitley Penn (FY18 net revenue of $114.1 million) has announced that firm veteran Frank Iannelli will lead its recently launched strategic consulting services practice.

The aim of the new practice is to help clients improve operating and financial performance. The new group’s services will include performance improvement, consulting and mentoring, strategic financial services and turnaround and restructuring.

“With the ever-changing business landscape, many of our clients have expressed the need for outsourced services of this type,” says MP Larry Autrey. “When we decided to launch this practice internally, we knew that Frank was the right person to lead the effort.

Whitley Penn Admits Six Professionals to Partnership

Fort Worth, Texas-based Whitley Penn (FY18 net revenue of $114.1 million) announces that six professionals were admitted to the partnership on Jan. 1: Tommy Byrd, Melinda Jones, Josh Plunk, Chase Tipton, Justin Wetzler and John Williamson.

Jones leads Whitley Penn’s financial institutions tax practice. She has experience as a community bank CFO and serves clients in all sectors. She is responsible for training and mentoring associates and is a frequent speaker for various industry groups.

Plunk began his accounting career as a fiduciary and estate tax accountant with a large national bank before deciding to pursue a career in public accounting. His experience focuses on wealth management and individual, gift, and estate planning and compliance. He also has experience as a technical and review editor for several estate planning and compliance publications.

Tipton has 12 years of experience focused primarily on exploration and production companies in the oil and gas industry ranging in size and structure from individuals, private equity funds, partnerships and family offices. His client base also includes industries such as farming and ranching, manufacturing, construction, transportation and real estate.

Wetzler advises clients in all tax-related matters including taxation of subchapter S corporations, partnerships, multi-state taxation, not-for-profit organizations, oil and gas taxation, and planning and consulting for high-net-worth individuals and small businesses. His experience ranges from small and family-owned business to private equity funds with significant capital commitments. Wetzler’s client base ranges across multiple industries.

Williamson has more than nine years of risk advisory services experience with public and private clients providing numerous services. He works with clients in the technology, financial institutions, financial services and alternative investments, manufacturing and distribution, real estate, energy, health care, professional services and public sector industries.

Fort Worth, Texas-based Whitley Penn (FY18 net revenue of $114.1 million) announces that Amanda Beabout, senior audit manager in the Houston office, has been named president-elect of the Bauer College Alumni Association’s board of directors. Bauer College is the College of Business located within the University of Houston.

Beabout serves clients in the energy, construction, professional services, manufacturing and distribution and ERISA industries. For the Bauer College Alumni Association position, Beabout will serve one year as president-elect learning from the current president and assisting with the planning and leading of meetings and serving as a liaison between the college and the alumni board.

Celina Cereceres

Additionally, Celina Cereceres, PIC of the firm’s public sector group, has been named a 2019 Women Who Mean Business honoree by the Houston Business Journal. Burress Joins Whitley Penn as Managing Director

Over the past 20 years, Burress led and performed valuations on business entities and intangible assets for acquisition, divestiture, financing, financial reporting and tax. Her valuation experience primarily includes purchase price allocations for financial reporting and tax purposes, goodwill impairment testing, gift and estate valuations, share-based compensation valuations and tax restructuring.

Burress has focused for the last 10 years on the energy sector, including oilfield services, midstream operations, upstream and mining, with a specialty in metals and coal. Additionally, she has advised many clients in the technology, biotechnology, industrial, specialty retail, real estate, health care and financial services industries.

Burress is now part of Whitley Penn’s traded markets practice, which provides both business consulting and litigation support services to participants in traded markets.

Fort Worth, Texas-based Whitley Penn (FY17 net revenue of $97.6 million), an IPA 100 firm, has announced that Mark Duffy, Jeff Edwards, Brandi Fletcher, Ashley Kimery, Nick Wells and Kyle Willey have been admitted into the partnership, effective Jan. 1.

Duffy joined the Fort Worth office in 2006 as an intern and transitioned to a full-time position in the tax department in 2007. He has spent the past 12 years assisting clients in the energy, manufacturing and distribution, real estate, professional services, retail and health care industries.

Jeff Edwards

Edwards joined the firm in 2013 as an audit senior manager in the Houston office. He primarily works with public and private clients in the oil and gas, manufacturing and distribution, service, not for profit and benefit plan industries. Also, he serves as a consultant for various technical accounting matters for the firm and conducts tax reviews for the employee benefit plan audit practice.

Fletcher joined the Whitley Penn tax department in 2006 and works with clients ranging from small to mid-size businesses, including entities held by private equity funds, large corporations and family offices. Her client base spans across multiple industries including manufacturing and distribution, transportation and health care.

Brandi Fletcher

Kimery joined Whitley Penn’s Austin, Texas, office in January 2017 when Wagner Eubank & Nichols and Midwikis & Granger merged into the firm. She primarily works with clients in professional services firms, lobbyists/political consultants, real estate partnerships, venture capital/private equity, and high-net-worth individuals.

Wells joined the Dallas audit department in 2011 after working for MetroPCS and KPMG. For the past seven years, he has focused on public and private clients primarily in the health care, financial services and industrial manufacturing industries.

Willey joined the firm in 2014 when JonesBaggett LLP merged into Whitley Penn. Since 2007, he has provided audit and consulting services to both public and non-public companies in a variety of industries with an emphasis on financial institutions and employee benefit plans. Robert Allen Returns to Whitley Penn as Managing Director

Allen previously worked at Whitley Penn from 2002 to 2008 in the same department. His areas of expertise include business valuation, intangible asset valuation and value enhancement consulting. He works with a number of industries for a variety of purposes, including tax reporting, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, litigation support, management consulting, succession planning and transactional advisory support.

Allen has extensive experience with purchase price allocations (ASC 805), goodwill impairment testing (ASC 350), stock-based compensation/options (ASC 718/IRC 409a), intangible asset valuation, estate and gift tax valuation, litigation and collaborative law matters, buy/sell agreement valuations, fairness opinions, solvency opinions, health care compensation studies and transfer pricing studies.

In addition, he has experience consulting with business owners on valuation and strategic planning issues, including the identification of value drivers and business risks to evaluate the impact on business value, identification of critical success factors and key performance indicators, the development of budgets and forecasts, and strategic benchmarking.

FLVS Director Starr Joins Whitley Penn

Fort Worth, Texas-based Whitley Penn (FY17 net revenue of $97.6 million), an IPA 100 firm, announces that Michelle Starr will be joining the firm as director of forensic litigation and valuation services (FLVS) in the Houston office.

Starr has more than 15 years of experience as a valuation analyst, expert witness, and business consultant. She is focused primarily on navigating mergers and acquisitions; loan covenants requirements; divorce; buy-ins and buy-outs; selling a business or professional practice; estate planning; navigating taxable events and settling legal disputes.

Starr assists clients with division of assets, asset tracing, assessing economic damages, settling disputes, resolving tax audits and levying monetary implications of breach of contract. She has also served as a financial expert in mediation.
