Marcum-Skoda Minotti Merger Becomes Final

The merger of Cleveland-based Skoda Minotti (FY18 net revenue of $59.4 million) and New York-based Marcum (FY18 net revenue of $549.7 million) became official December 2.

Skoda Minotti adds 31 partners, more than 190 associates and four offices to Marcum’s Midwest and Florida regions. It is ranked No. 74 on the 2019 IPA 100 list of largest accounting firms in the U.S. and was named an IPA Best of the Best firm this year as well.

Skoda Minotti’s national practices in risk advisory, strategic marketing, transaction advisory and management consulting will expand Marcum’s services in those areas, Skoda Minotti announced. Marcum, the 15th largest accounting firm in the country, will be gaining additional experts in the real estate, construction, manufacturing and distribution, professional services and health care sectors.

Gregory Skoda, who co-founded Skoda Minotti, has been admitted as a senior partner and joins the firm’s executive committee. “The synergies between our firms provide a strong foundation for our continued mutual success and growth,” he says.

Marcum’s new Akron, Ohio, office will be led by Christopher Sivak and the Tampa, Fla., office will be led by Daniel Dowell. Danielle Gisondo will lead the firm’s Mayfield Village, Ohio, office and Jonathan J. Shoop will lead the new downtown Cleveland office when it opens in January 2020. Skoda Minotti’s Patrick Carney will become COO of Marcum’s Midwest region.

Skoda Minotti Expands to Downtown Cleveland

Cleveland-based Skoda Minotti (FY17 net revenue of $53.7 million) announces its expansion to downtown Cleveland.

Skoda Minotti will lease approximately 10,000 square feet of office space on the eighth floor of the Fifth Third Center at 600 Superior Ave. Occupancy is expected to begin in the fall with approximately 40 to 50 employees. The firm’s existing office is located in Mayfield Village, just east of the city.

To support this growth, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a Job Creation Tax Credit for Skoda Minotti. The six-year, 1.2% tax credit paves the way for creation of more than 20 full-time Skoda Minotti jobs in the city of Cleveland which are expected to generate $1 million in new annual payroll for the city.

Skoda Minotti Launches New Practice Group for Startups

Cleveland-based Skoda Minotti (FY17 net revenue of $53.7 million) has launched its emerging companies group, which is designed to help early-stage companies with an array of accounting, tax, operational, governance and investor relations issues.

Skoda Minotti Promotes Murphy and Seitz to Principals

Cleveland-based Skoda Minotti (FY17 net revenue of $53.7 million) announced the promotion of Dennis Murphy and Matthew Seitz to principals.

As a principal in Skoda Minotti’s accounting and auditing group, Murphy devotes approximately half of his time to auditing construction contractors, where he routinely reviews and tests contracts, pay applications, change orders and job costs. Additionally, he assists clients who deal in cryptocurrency, such as receiving payment in bitcoin and paying employees in bitcoin.

Murphy has given national webinars on tangible property regulations issued by the IRS, which closely relate to business owners who own their own buildings. He is a member of and sits on the Executive Committee of the firm’s real estate and construction group. Murphy joined the firm in 2007 from an international accounting firm where he was an audit associate.

Seitz was promoted to director of strategic marketing in the firm’s strategic marketing services group. In this role, he works with clients to understand their marketing goals and objectives, then develops and executes strategic marketing plans. He also heads up the firm’s lead generation initiatives. His areas of experience include advertising, branding, content marketing, lead generation, public relations, social media and strategic marketing planning.

Seitz is a frequent author and speaker on a variety of marketing topics, including content marketing, lead generation and social media. Prior to joining Skoda Minotti, Seitz served as director of marketing for a Northeast Ohio-based professional services organization specializing in human resources.

Skoda Minotti Admits Shoop as Partner

Cleveland-based Skoda Minotti (FY17 net revenue of $53.7 million) has admitted Jonathan Shoop as partner.

Shoop leads the firm’s manufacturing and distribution group. His experience includes more than 15 years in public accounting serving clients, and working at a multinational manufacturer. He joined Skoda Minotti in 2012.

Shoop’s areas of expertise include business advisory services, performing internal and external audit and attest services for publicly traded companies as well as large, middle market and smaller enterprises; buy/sell due diligence and technical accounting consultations; and performing cost studies/margin analyses on client and product profitability.

Prior to joining the firm, Shoop worked as a manager of external financial reporting for a Cleveland-based manufacturing company. He began his career at an international accounting firm as a manager in its audit practice. He was a lead manager of fieldwork teams on both PCAOB audits and private company audits, specializing in clients in manufacturing and distribution industries.

Cleveland-based Skoda Minotti (FY17 net revenue of $53.7 million) announced that Alyson Fieldman has been appointed director of marketing. Fieldman will lead and oversee marketing, business development and communications strategies for the firm.

Fieldman has more than 15 years of experience in professional services marketing. As director of marketing for Skoda Minotti, she will work closely with leadership to set the firm’s marketing strategy in order to grow the business and its service lines. Specific expertise includes branding, business strategy, business development/sales, content marketing, management, marketing communications, public relations, social media and website development.

Prior to joining Skoda Minotti, Fieldman was managing director of client service for One North, a Chicago-based digital agency focused on professional services. She worked her way up from project manager during her decade-long tenure there. Prior to that, she was an account manager at Greenfield/Belser, a Washington, D.C.-based branding agency with expertise in the legal industry.

In his role, Palisin brings expertise in tax research and strategy, flow-through entity taxation, individual taxation and planning and small business consulting.

Palisin has more than 20 years of accounting and tax experience, working in both public accounting and private industry. He has spent most of his career working for a large regional accounting firm and, more recently, a national accounting firm.

Campomizzi now serves as a principal in the accounting and auditing department. She is focused on driving value for her clients; continuing to find ways to increase their economic and strategic opportunities. With over 10 years of experience, she is responsible for supervising and managing audits, reviews and compilations in various industries.

Hamilton has been with Skoda Minotti for nearly 20 years in the accounting and auditing group. She is responsible for the oversight of the accounting and auditing staff group in the Tampa, Fla., office, and actively participates in recruiting and mentoring of staff at all levels.

She is a nominee for the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s 2016 Business Woman of the Year Award. She is a graduate of the firm’s 2015 Leadership Development Class and was a 2014 recipient of the firm’s annual Delivering on the Promise Award.

Rauhe will lead the international tax services group, providing international tax consulting, strategic tax planning and corporate tax support services. He has more than 17 years of international tax experience with corporations and accounting firms. Previously, he was principal and owner of Cornerstone Tax Consulting in Novi, Mich.
