GBQ Partners Expands to Toledo Area

Columbus, Ohio-based GBQ Partners LLC (FY18 net revenue of $31.7 million) has announced that Weber Clark of Sylvania, Ohio, has joined the firm.

Weber Clark, founded in 1980, has a complementary culture and shares GBQ’s commitment to providing service of exceptional quality, integrity and objectivity, GBQ says.

“GBQ is growing in Ohio, responding to increasing demand for our services,” says Darci Congrove, managing director. “Joining with Weber Clark is an important step in our journey to build a regional firm with deep resources.”

Weber Clark founder Jim Weber and his team join GBQ to bring the total staff count to 219. Weber and his fellow partners will become partners at GBQ and will lead GBQ’s Toledo-area office.

“We have worked with GBQ team members on client matters for several years. The combination of the two firms will support our firm’s continued growth and ability to provide strategic ideas and solutions to our growing clients,” Weber says.

GBQ Admits Minton as Partner, National Restaurant Practice Leader

Columbus, Ohio-based GBQ (FY18 net revenue of $31.7 million) has announced that Dustin Minton has joined the firm and has been admitted as a partner within the assurance practice. Based in the Cincinnati office, Minton will lead GBQ’s national restaurant industry efforts.

 Minton has over 20 years of public accounting experience, including 15 years working with many of the nation’s fastest-growing restaurants and most well-respected brands across all restaurant segments. Prior to joining GBQ, he was a partner and restaurant practice leader at three other firms.

“Our market insights indicate that there is an unmet need at this time for a firm focused on the private company, mid- to smaller-size restaurants. With Dustin’s leadership, we plan to be the firm that fulfills that need,“ says Tom Powers, director of assurance services.

Minton specializes in providing accounting and consulting services for privately held restaurants and franchisors. In addition to traditional audit, review and compilation services, he also consults with restaurants on best practices related to internal controls, benchmarking, franchise development, corporate structures, financing options and growth strategies.

GBQ Offers Fraud Hotline for Clients’ Employees

Columbus, Ohio-based GBQ (FY17 net revenue of $31.4 million) is introducing a fraud hotline to help companies protect against fraud, waste and abuse.

The GBQ hotline service allows employees at clients’ companies to report their suspicions of wrongdoing anonymously. Nearly half of all frauds are detected through a tip, GBQ reports.

Tips will be handled by certified fraud professionals and CPAs, and GBQ will provide training on the importance of reporting concerns and suspicions.

“We believe that an organization’s resources are better used protecting against fraud, waste and abuse versus investigation after it is too late,” says Rebekah Smith, director of forensic and dispute advisory services. “GBQ’s fraud hotline offering provides an important line of defense by providing an easy way for employees to report concerns. In addition, simply having a hotline tells employees that your organization takes fraud seriously.”

GBQ Expands Services with Keep Financials

Columbus, Ohio-based GBQ (FY17 net revenue of $31.4 million) has launched Keep Financials, a comprehensive outsourced accounting and bookkeeping practice.

The aim of Keep Financials is to remove the burden of back-office tasks from business owners while offering “financial intelligence” to help move the business forward, the firm says. Entrepreneurs and business owners have told GBQ that there’s a gap in the market for basic accounting and bookkeeping services. Some of these services try their best to reach potential clients through financial advisor marketing as a way of assisting business owners and entrepreneurs who are looking to help with their finances.

Managing Director Darci Congrove says, “By creating a virtual bookkeeping service, we’ve rounded out our GBQ offerings to serve every financial need a business owner might face, from basic accounting and financial statement preparation to tax planning and advice, special project assistance, business valuations and transaction assistance.”

Nakicevic Joins GBQ as Tax Director

Columbus, Ohio-based GBQ Partners (FY17 net revenue of $31.4 million) announced that Azra Nakicevic has joined the firm as a director in the firm’s tax practice. She is based out of GBQ’s Columbus office.

Nakicevic has more than 17 years of Big 4 experience in managing large and diverse teams to deliver tax planning and compliance to clients. She is a subject matter expert in pass through-entities (partnerships and S corporations) and individual taxation with a strong focus in the real estate industry. Additionally, she has provided an active consulting role to clients in choice of entity, complex income and loss allocations, troubled debt restructuring, like-kind exchanges, tax credits, involuntary conversions and structuring related to merger and acquisitions of businesses.

GBQ Names New Business Technology Director

Davidson joins the firm from information security and information risk management firm Jacadis, where he served as president and CEO. Previously, he was practice leader for web technologies at SARCOM and FrontWay. Davidson is a past board member of the Hilliard Chamber of Commerce in Ohio, and former program chairman for the local Columbus ISACA chapter, which is an international professional association focused on IT governance.

GBQ Expands SALT Practice to Philadelphia

George Vrettos has joined the state and local tax (SALT) practice at Columbus, Ohio-based GBQ (FY15 net revenue of $26.8 million). The practice is expanding to Philadelphia, and Vrettos has been named director of East Coast operations.

He has 14 years of experience and has worked at two Big 4 firms and as a senior consultant with Johnson & Johnson.

“George’s extensive experiences in industry and public accounting will add significant depth to our multistate income tax practice, enhance our ability to serve clients and drive GBQ’s expansion into East Coast markets,” says Matt Stamp, director of SALT services.

Stucke joined GBQ in 2007 and is involved with the performance and management of audits, reviews and other business consulting projects. She performs complex accounting and financial reporting projects for private companies, nonprofits and SEC clients.
