Markarian & Meehan Ltd., of Wakefield, R.I., will join DiSanto Priest & Co., of Warwick, R.I. DiSanto Priest is one of the largest regional accounting, tax and business advisory firms based in Southern New England. This merger will become official on Jan. 1.

Markarian and Meehan’s 25 firm members, including three partners, professionals and supporting staff, will be even better positioned to build a culture of personalized service coupled with specialized expertise.

Michelle Ryan, partner at Great Bend, Kan.-based Adams Brown Beran & Ball Chtd. (FY16 net revenue of $18.2 million) has been named the recipient of the Woman to Watch Experienced Leader award, given by the AICPA and the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants (KSCPA).

Rosen Named Worldwide CEO of BKR International

BKR International has appointed Howard Rosen in a new role as Worldwide CEO, effective Jan. 1. Rosen will assume the international responsibilities of BKR International Executive Director Maureen Schwartz, who will retire at the end of 2018.

As Worldwide CEO, Rosen will oversee administrative leadership and communication between the Americas Region, based in New York, and the executive directors in the EMEA Region (London) and Asia/Pacific Region (Sydney).

“We were fortunate to have Maureen Schwartz serving as both the Americas Region and Worldwide executive director for many years,” says Rosen. “As the size of our association has grown, the Worldwide Board has been working on a leadership transition over the last few years.”

A search for a new Americas Region executive director is underway, and Rosen will support that transition of leadership. He is a past Americas Region Chairman and Worldwide Chairman. He was also a managing partner in a BKR International member firm for many years.

Lisa Goldman has joined New York-based Berdon LLP (FY16 net revenue of $111.8 million) as a partner. Goldman is a specialist in international taxation with more than 20 years of experience in the accounting profession and the private sector. She advises high net worth individuals as well as privately-owned companies in the real estate, manufacturing and distribution, and consumer products industries.

Her expertise encompasses a variety of areas, including identifying domestic and international tax savings opportunities, and structuring holdings and transactions of non-U.S. corporations, trusts, estates and other entities. She also has extensive experience evaluating the tax and economic outcomes of real estate and business transactions.

Hungerford Nichols Acquires Michigan Firm

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Hungerford Nichols CPAs + Advisors announced its merger with Gerbel & Company PC of St. Joseph, Mich. Gerbel founder Robert Gerbel, along with his staff, will join the team at Hungerford Nichols, effective Jan. 1.

“Hungerford Nichols identified the need to expand throughout West Michigan to better serve our clients,” says Tom Prince, shareholder at Hungerford Nichols. “When we met the team at Gerbel, their focus on excellent service, integrity and community involvement brought them to the top of our merger list.”

Hargraves joined the firm in 2009 and has been a leader in the technology and middle-market audit practices, providing attestation and consulting services to privately-held companies primarily in the technology, professional service and life science industries. She has significant experience with complex revenue and equity transactions.

Moore Stephens Names Lurie as New Member

Moore Stephens North America (MSNA) has announced the addition of Lurie LLP (FY17 net revenue of $28 million) of Minneapolis to the association. Lurie was founded in 1940 and is one of the top 15 Accounting firms in the Twin Cities and one of the top 120 nationally.
