Gary Shamis, co-founder of the Advisory Board and former MP of SS&G, has announced his departure from BDO USA at the end of this year to pursue a new venture, Winding River Consulting.
Shamis has served since 2015 as national strategy and growth advisor for Chicago-based BDO (FY16 net revenue of $1.3 billion). Cleveland-based SS&G, where Shamis spent 35 years as MP, combined with BDO that year.
“Leaving BDO is bittersweet, but I am confident that it is the correct path for continued success, and the timing is right for my next venture,” says Shamis.
Shamis’ new venture, Winding River Consulting, is a business advisory services company aimed at supporting accounting firm MPs with the challenges of identifying and attaining goals of growth, productivity and profit.
“Whatever Gary does will be done successfully. He’s proven it time and time again with his many contributions to business and his philanthropic accomplishments,” says Robert Littman, Ohio MP for BDO.
Shamis will continue to maintain his two-decades long consulting practice, conducting retreats, facilitating partner meetings, and providing strategic and tactical support.
“I’ve known Gary for 30 years and can attest to the fact that he is a serial entrepreneur who is not content unless he’s creating value for others,” says Allan Koltin, chief executive of Chicago-based Koltin Consulting Group LLC. “With Winding River, he will continue to do exactly that.”
“I’ve been consulting for so long that it’s second nature to me,” Shamis says. “Although I never actually set out to establish a formal consulting business, given the timing and opportunity it seemed like a natural progression, to make it official.”
As leader of Winding River Consulting, Shamis heads a team of professionals with expertise in human resources, strategy and marketing. With Winding River Consulting, he intends to bring multi-faceted perspective and added value to each engagement, serving as an invaluable resource to help organizations address obstacles and challenges in their growth and evolution.
He will also continue his roles as co-founder and partner of The Advisory Board and cohost of its proprietary, Winning is Everything! conference. He is the founder and chairman-emeritus of LEA Global (Leading Edge Alliance), the second-largest international association in the world.
