Jurnak Tapped to Lead Commercial Business Practice at BerryDunn

Portland, Maine-based BerryDunn (FY16 net revenue of $57.6 million) has announced that Mike Jurnak, who leads BerryDunn’s New Hampshire office, has been named the new practice leader of the firm’s commercial business practice group.

He will lead a team of professionals throughout the firm across a number of industry groups, including manufacturing, high-tech, hospitality, construction, utilities and others. Jurnak works closely with private commercial companies helping them to create, grow and protect value with financial reporting; financial analysis and benchmarking; merger and acquisition structuring; internal controls and systems development; and strategic planning and accounting services throughout New England.

MBAF Names Four New Directors

Miami-based MBAF (FY15 net revenue of $98.6 million) has promoted the following professionals to the position of director: Elizabeth Egan, Lisette Rodriguez, Brian Schlang and Adam Ziffer.

Egan has been appointed as director in the tax and accounting department in the firm’s Fort Lauderdale, Fla., office. She has been in the public accounting profession since 1999. Her expertise includes tax planning and compliance, fiduciary income taxation, trusts and estates.

Rodriguez has been appointed as director in the audit department in the firm’s Miami headquarters. Her industry experience includes aviation, financial institutions, health care, higher education, manufacturing, non-profit, real estate, construction and public companies.

Schlang has been appointed as director in the tax and accounting department in the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office. He provides extensive compliance and consulting services to entities in various industries including automotive dealerships, construction and real estate developers, health care, hedge funds and broker-dealers, high-net-worth individuals, hospitality and restaurants, manufacturers, professional service firms, property management, and technology and internet industries.

Ziffer has been appointed as director in the tax and accounting department in the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office. He specializes in corporate, individual and partnership tax planning with an emphasis on real estate acquisition, professional associations and closely held companies. He is responsible for tax quality review and planning for closely held businesses and individuals ranging in size from startups to $300 million in revenues.

Birmingham, Ala.-based Warren Averett (FY15 net revenue of $115.4 million) has named John Shurley as the new OMP of the Atlanta office. Shurley has been a member of Warren Averett’s audit division for more than 30 years.

Andrew Siegel, who has led the fast-paced growth of the Atlanta office for the past six years, will dedicate his time to growing the firm’s alternative investments practice (including venture capital, private equity and hedge funds), as well as continuing to serve his clients in the areas of individual tax planning and partnership taxation.

Shurley will manage the day-to-day activities of the Atlanta office of over 100 employees, and serve as the lead partner on Atlanta’s growth strategy committee. Over his career, Shurley has represented some of the firm’s largest audit clients and has been deeply involved in numerous mergers and acquisition transactions.

Brentwood, Tenn.-based LBMC (FY16 net revenue of $84.4 million) has announced executive leadership appointments to help accommodate growth in the areas of tax, audit, information security and staffing.

The firm has named four key employees as new leaders in the LBMC PC arm of the firm: health care services audit expert Brad Bonde, tax wealth management specialist Brianna Mullenax and outsourcing experts Brett Kennedy and Justin Follis were recently admitted as partners.

In addition, LBMC Information Security admitted managed security practice leader, Jason Riddle, as a partner, while LBMC Staffing Solutions named financial recruiting specialist Britt Cumbie to director of contract accounting services.

Bonde specializes in private equity and venture capital-backed healthcare entities. He has over 11 years of experience, including time spent with a Big 4 firm, GE health care, and a national public accounting firm. Bonde also serves as a technical review expert for the firm’s audit department and frequently assists clients with buy-side and sell-side due diligence procedures and quality of earnings analysis.

Kennedy has more than 13 years of public accounting experience providing tax services. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, Submarine Force.

Cumbie has been recruiting financial and accounting professionals for LBMC Staffing Solutions for more than 10 years.  He serves a broad client base that includes many of the most successful companies in Nashville.  In his new role, he will be responsible for leading and growing the Brentwood accounting and financial contract services division.

Marks Paneth also recently announced that it has merged in six partners and 14 staff of MDG LLC of Jenkintown, Pa., to expand its presence into the Philadelphia marketplace.

Moss Adams Announces Leadership Moves

Seattle-based Moss Adams (FY15 net revenue of $477 million) has announced that Chris Schmidt has been re-elected to serve another term as chairman and CEO until June 30, 2022.

Dave Follett will take over for Dick Fohn as the new president and COO, while Fohn assumes leadership of the firm’s consulting practice. Rebecca Pomering will become chief practice officer. These role changes are effective Aug. 10.

Follett has served as the chief practice officer for Moss Adams since October 2011. In his role as president and COO, Follett will be responsible for firm operations and administration, and will oversee daily operations including finance, human resources and information technology. He will also work with regional leaders to direct and implement the firm’s overall growth strategies.

“I’m honored to step into this role and help lead Moss Adams into the future,” says Follett. “I hope to continue the firm’s legacy and commitment to our people and excellent client service.”

In his new role as regional MP of consulting, Fohn will guide the rapidly growing consulting practice, leveraging his operational leadership experience to expand the firm’s current consulting offerings and further develop the practice.

Wessing joined Marks Paneth in 2008 and specializes in litigation consulting services in class action securities litigation, as well as cases brought by the SEC involving financial statement fraud. She also leads corporate fraud investigations, including quantifying related damages; consults on internal control systems; and performs acquisition due diligence for private equity firms and corporate clients. Corpus Christi Firm Merges With Carr, Riggs & Ingram
