Two Louisville Firms Merge

Mather & Co. of Louisville, Ky., has agreed to merge with another Louisville CPA firm, Mulligan, Hill, Clements & Co., Louisville Business First reported.

Bruce Smith, MP of Mather & Co., told the newspaper that the merger will be completed at the start of 2016.

“Smith said this is a merger, not a buyout, meaning Mather hasn’t spent any funds to purchase Mulligan. But he said that over time, Mather will purchase the equity stakes of Mulligan’s two equity partners, Frank Clements and Sally Mudd. Smith had no timetable for when the two partners could get bought out, though, saying that it depends on how long they want to work,” the newspaper reported.

Mather will go from 16 CPAs to 19 and will have a staff of about 40 when the merger is complete.

The merger is intended, in part, to give younger CPAs more leadership possibilities. Smith says Mulligan was the right merger partner for Mather because the firm has high quality control and “a high quality of people.”
