The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) has named Cari Weston as director of taxation.

In her new role, Weston will lead the AICPA’s taxation team in providing information and resources to AICPA members who provide tax planning, preparation, examination and representation services to their clients. The resources include tax practice quality control and management tools, as well as guidance and best practices related to tax ethics and practice standards.

Weston had her own tax practice firm in Austin, Texas, before she joined the AICPA in 2013 as senior technical manager of taxation. She has spent 20 years in public accounting.

“Cari’s extensive experience in firms of all sizes – from international to sole owner – gives her a unique perspective to address the varying needs of AICPA members who provide tax services,” said AICPA Vice President of Taxation Edward S. Karl in announcing the appointment. “I look forward to working with Cari to promote CPAs as the premiere providers of tax services.”

She regularly represents the AICPA in webcasts and speaking engagements and as a media spokesperson on both technical and practice management tax topics. In addition, Weston has contributed articles to several AICPA publications.
