New York-based PwC US (FY13 gross revenue of $11 billion) announced that John Farina has been named as MP of the professional services firm’s Northeast market, effective May 1. In this role, Farina will lead more than 3,400 professionals in delivering assurance and audit, tax and consulting services to clients in the Boston and Hartford, Conn., offices. The Northeast is the second largest market for PwC in the U.S. Farina succeeds Barry Nearhos, who is retiring from the firm after serving the market for the past 35 years, including seven very successful years as MP.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead a talented group of professionals who are committed to delivering high quality services and helping Northeast clients solve complex business issues,” says Farina. “Under Barry’s leadership, PwC has shown a strong commitment to the Boston and Hartford communities, and I look forward to continuing that tradition.”

Since 2008, Farina has led PwC’s Northeast tax practice, which has grown from approximately 600 partners and staff in 2008 to more than 800 today. He previously served as PwC’s U.S. insurance sector tax leader and also serves on PwC’s U.S. and global boards.
