New York-based Citrin Cooperman (FY13 net revenue of $133 million) announced that John Bonelli has joined the company as its general counsel. Bonelli joins the firm with nearly 15 years of experience working as in-house counsel and, prior to that, as a practicing attorney. He will principally be based in the firm’s headquarters.

“As Citrin Cooperman has grown, the executive committee and I have felt the need for an in-house counsel to assist the CEO and our management team on the complex legal issues that CPA firms have to deal with,” says Joel Cooperman, CEO. “Once we met John, we had no doubt that he fit the bill.”

Bonelli will advise Citrin Cooperman on various matters, including risk assessment, collections, engagement letters, compliance, employment law and governmental compliance.

Prior to joining Citrin Cooperman, Bonelli served as in-house counsel at Rothstein Kass, where he managed litigation and advised on risk management. Bonelli also spent several years as a litigation and transaction attorney at law firms in New Jersey.
