Demetris Demetriou has been appointed president of international accounting association DFK International. He is the first member from Cyprus to be made president of DFK International.

Demetriou, who served as deputy president for the last three years, takes on the role in his 20th year of being part of DFK International. He is co-founder of audit and accounting firm DFK Demetriou Trapezaris based in Nicosia, Cyprus.

He succeeds U.S.-based Scott Hazy, who held the previous three-year term. His appointment was made at the recent annual conference of DFK International in Montreal, Canada.

Demetriou says, “To be appointed president of DFK International and to lead a top 10 global accountancy association really is an honor and a privilege, particularly being from a relatively small firm and country. As a partner of a small to medium-size firm, I am representative of the vast majority of our members and recognize the difference that they and the larger member firms together make as an association.” He is the 11th president of the association, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012.
