Burns Named One Of The “Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business”

Pleasanton, Calif.-based Sensiba San Filippo LLP (FY13 net revenue of $14.4 million) announced that assurance partner Karen Burns has been recognized as one of the “Most Influential Women in the Bay Area” by the San Francisco Business Times for the second consecutive year.

The “Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business” list honors women who demonstrate exceptional leadership, achievement and influence within their industry and across their communities. Recipients will gather at a June 12 event bringing together the highest-ranking, most prominent women in regional business to celebrate their contributions in leadership, community service and mentorship.

“Karen’s deep understanding, intense focus and hands-on approach with our clients is unparalleled in our industry,” says John Sensiba, MP of Sensiba San Filippo LLP. “We’re thrilled that she has been recognized for her exceptional leadership for a second year in a row.”

Burns has more than 20 years of experience providing financial and business consulting services to companies in a variety of industries, with a particular emphasis on the manufacturing and distribution sector. She is also passionate about bringing an end to breast cancer by walking hundreds of miles and raising thousands of dollars for the cause, including the 40-mile, Two-Day Avon Walk, which she has participated in for the past 10 years.


O’Neill and Latham Promoted to Shareholders of Mayer Hoffman McCann

Leawood, Kan.-based Mayer Hoffman McCann P.C. (MHM) (FY13 net revenue of $532 million) admitted Janet O’Neill and Catherine Latham as shareholders. Both are members of the firm’s Tofias New England Division and are located in the Boston office.

O’Neill has built her career dedicated to the nonprofit sector. As a member of the firm’s nonprofit audit practice, she has extensive experience providing audit and consulting services to the nonprofit industry, including the health and human services, education and cultural sectors. She manages financial statement audits and offers recommendations on internal controls, operations and accounting issues.

Latham joined the firm in 1998 and works with closely held businesses in various industries including professional services, manufacturing, distribution and retail. She provides a range of services including audits and reviews of financial statements and consulting on various matters. Latham is also a member of the firm’s employee benefit plan audit practice and conducts audits for various types of retirement plans for both for-profit and not-for-profit entities.


Vick Joins Baker Tilly Executive Search

Chicago-based Baker Tilly Executive Search (FY13 net revenue of $301.3 million) a subsidiary of accounting and advisory firm Baker Tilly Virchow Krause LLP (Baker Tilly), announced that Kevin Vick has joined the firm as executive vice president.

In his new role, Vick will be responsible for developing relationships within the manufacturing and distribution, professional services, technology, retail and private equity and venture capital industry sectors. He will also lead the successful execution of senior-level executive search assignments across all business functions. He brings nearly 10 years of experience in the executive search field.

French to Lead Grant Thornton’s Consumer and Industrial Products Practice

Chicago-based Grant Thornton LLP (FY13 net revenue of $1.3 billion) named Jeff French as national MP of the firm’s consumer and industrial products practice and leader of its manufacturing practice effective May 1. He will succeed Wally Gruenes, who became OMP of the firm’s Dallas practice on Jan. 1.

Most recently, French served as leader of the firm’s Wisconsin audit services. He has acted as the lead service partner for numerous clients, and has experience serving as the primary business adviser to CEOs and boards of directors. He has worked with a broad range of public and private clients, from startups to large corporations, focusing on audit and financial reporting, internal controls and related matters, acquisition strategies, due diligence, operations and productivity improvement reviews, public offerings and international statutory audits.

Lynne Born, COO of Redwood City, Calif.-based Seiler LLP (FY13 net revenue of $36.1 million) has been recognized by the Silicon Valley Business Journal as one of the most influential women in the Silicon Valley. The Women of Influence program honors women executives who have made a significant impact in the private, public or nonprofit sectors of the region.

In her role as COO at Seiler LLP, Born leads firm-wide strategic planning and operations with a focus on growth and profitability. She also serves as a member of the board of directors and chair of the strategic planning committee for Watermark, an executive woman’s networking organization in Silicon Valley. She holds positions on the CalCPA succession planning committee, the management summit for accounting firms and the COO forum as well.
