Three Tax Partners Join Cherry Bekaert’s Expanding South Florida Practice

Richmond, Va.-based Cherry Bekaert LLP (FY14 net revenue of $130.8 million) admitted Stephen Danner, Lourdes De Los Santos and Michael DeSiato as tax partners to the firm’s Coral Gables, Fla., office.

Formerly with CBIZ Inc. and Mayer Hoffman McCann PC, Danner and DeSiato joined Cherry Bekaert after a recent acquisition that also included 23 associates. Prior to her arrival, De Los Santos was a tax director at a national public accounting firm.

Also an expert in tax and estate planning with an emphasis on preserving wealth, Danner is well versed in creating charitable planning strategies related to estate planning and creditor protection.

With more than 20 years of public accounting experience, De Los Santos specializes in serving middle-market companies and being a trusted advisor for personal tax planning and compliance needs. Her taxation expertise includes closely held businesses, partnerships, S-Corporations, financial institutions, high-net-worth individuals, real estate and construction industries and multi-state large corporations, as well as international tax compliance.

A member of the firm’s real estate and construction industry group, DeSiato focuses on tax planning and compliance for growing middle-market companies. Gumbiner Savett Announces New Shareholder

Gumbiner Savett (FY13 net revenue of $16.7 million) of Santa Monica, Calif., announced that Jon Shoemaker has been admitted as shareholder of the firm.

“Jon has been a valuable member of the firm for 20 years and is well respected among his clients and peers. He is an excellent practitioner, and I am proud to call him a fellow shareholder,” says Michael Savoy, MP at Gumbiner Savett. “Most recently Jon has taken on more leadership duties within the firm as the head of the not-for-profit practice.”

Shoemaker has been a principal of the firm for three years and is an audit and accounting practitioner. He is well versed in small- and large-scale audits and internal control projects. He works with middle-market clients in various sectors such as manufacturing and distribution, Internet commerce and employee benefit plans. Shoemaker also works with not-for-profit organizations, focusing on associations, private foundations, religious organizations and higher education organizations.

Jones to Lead PKM’s Regulatory Compliance Services

Greg Jones has joined Porter Keadle Moore of Atlanta as director of regulatory compliance services.

Jones has held top positions at both traditional and innovative online financial institutions, where he created cutting-edge compliance strategies. He also served more than 20 years as assistant regional director of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Jones will work closely with risk advisory partner Sonny MacArthur and other members of the firm’s fast-growing enterprise risk management (ERM) team.

Ryan Admits Three to Principal and Four Corporate Officers to Senior Leadership Team

Dallas-based Ryan announced that Richard Turner, Sean Weaver and Mike Zarlengo have been admitted as principals. Also, Gillian Holcomb, Jennifer Ivanelli and Angela Perkins were promoted to vice president and Kathy Weaver was promoted to senior vice president.

Turner is an executive in Ryan’s state income and franchise tax practice based in the Cleveland office and specializes in providing multi-disciplinary tax solutions and strategies. He joined the firm in 2009.

Weaver is an executive based in the Washington, D.C., office and specializes in providing transaction tax services on a nationwide basis to clients in the defense, technology, data center and manufacturing industries. Weaver joined the firm in 2005.

Zarlengo is a business development executive based in the Dallas office and specializes in providing a suite of multi-disciplinary tax services to large multinational clients. Zarlengo joined the firm in 2007.

Holcomb joined Ryan in 2000 and is based in the Dallas office. She is responsible for operations within the transaction tax practice, which is Ryan’s largest tax practice area.

Ivanelli joined Ryan in 2012 as part of the firm’s acquisition of Thomson Reuters property tax services business and is based in the Chicago office. She is responsible for operations within the property tax practice, which is Ryan’s second largest tax practice area.

Perkins joined Ryan in 1999 and is based in the Dallas office. She is responsible for Ryan’s quality assurance department and ensures that the firm’s services and client engagements are consistently performed at the highest level possible. Prior to her role in quality assurance, Perkins spent seven years in Ryan’s transaction tax practice.

Weaver joined Ryan in 2006 and is based in the Dallas office. She was instrumental in the development of the firm’s premier leadership development program and has been the key driver of Ryan’s internationally recognized learning and development programs.

Prager Metis Admits Fantozzi to Partnership

New York-based Prager Metis CPAs LLC (FY13 net revenue of $36 million) announced the appointment of Andrea Fantozzi to partner. Previously the director of the U.S-European team in the international department, Fantozzi will be a partner of Prager Metis International LLC and Prager Metis CPAs LLC effective Jan. 1.

Fantozzi has more than 10 years of experience in providing accounting, audit, due diligence and financial advice to international and domestic middle-market firms in several industries. He specializes in areas such as manufacturing and distribution, e-commerce, textiles, luxury retail, digital communications, not-for-profit, logistics and financial services. Fantozzi offers financial and business consulting to European firms entering the U.S. market and U.S. firms interested in expanding to Europe.

Beverly Hills, Calif.-based NSBN LLP (FY14 net revenue of $14.3 million) announced the passing of partner Kathy M. Keifner, after a long-fought and courageous battle with cancer.

For more than 30 years, Keifner specialized in serving clients in commercial, industrial and residential real estate, with extensive experience in the areas of affordable housing and real estate partnership taxation.

Keifner generously shared her expertise with the real estate and accounting industries, serving on the board of directors for the affordable housing management association as director of state and local affairs.

Sikich Welcomes Connell as Director of Retirement Services

Naperville, Ill.-based Sikich LLP (FY13 net revenue of $100 million) hired Joe Connell as a director of retirement plan services.

Previously, Connell served as the president of Retirement Plan Partners. In his new role, he will lead Sikich’s retirement plan advisory practice, oversee its growth in Minnesota and South Dakota and provide current clients with quality service.

Connell has more than 15 years of experience in retirement planning with expertise in all areas of 401(k) plan consulting, including investment selection and performance monitoring, vendor negotiation, participant education and plan administration and design. He joins the wealth management team with assets under management and administration that total over $650 million.

“Joe is a nationally recognized thought leader in the retirement planning services industry. He has a long track record of helping organizations make smarter retirement plan decisions, which enables their participants to retire successfully,” says Jim Sikich, CEO of Sikich LLP. “Joe will increase our assets under management and administration to approximately $850 million.”
