Tolin Begins Term as President of AAM

Katie Tolin, director of practice growth at New Philadelphia, Ohio-based Rea & Associates (FY12 net revenue of $31.2 million) has been elected 2013-2014 president of the Association for Accounting Marketing (AAM). Her one-year term began July 1. Other AAM officers include president-elect Kerry Sullivan-Lechner, marketing director at Helena, Mont.-based Anderson, ZurMuehlen & Co. (FY12 net revenue of $25 million); vice president Jack Kolmansberger, chief marketing officer at Herbein & Company (firm revenue unknown); secretary Art Kuesel, founder, Kuesel Consulting; and treasurer Laura Snyder, manager at Oak Brook, Ill.-based Crowe Horwath (FY13 net revenue of $599 million). Immediate past president is Erinn Keserica, regional marketing manager at Richmond, Va.-based Cherry Bakaert (FY12 net revenue of $123.6 million).

AC Lordi Buys Back Business Unit

AC Lordi, a Pennsylvania-based accounting, risk management consulting and executive search firm, announced a management buyback of a business unit from Chicago Growth Partners and Peppertree Capital.

CEO and MP Frank Lordi said the re-acquisition of the firm was a logical decision, according to Venture Capital Post.

He said the return of local ownership for the firm offered greater flexibility in hiring and paying employees. It also allowed the company to look into strategic partnerships and other market opportunities.

Two Florida Firms Become One; New Partners Named

Two Vero Beach, Fla., firms – List and Reamy CPAs and Colton and Williams CPAs – are now Colton, Williams, List & Reamy, CPAs. Both firms have been serving clients for over two decades.

The firm retains the offices of the former Colton and Williams. The new partners are Andrew Williams, Eddie List, H. James Reamy III, Billy Chavers and Fred Nelson.

Schoenfeld Mendelsohn Goldfarb, Janover Merge

Schoenfeld Mendelsohn Goldfarb has merged with Garden City, N.Y.-based Janover (FY12 net revenue of $14.5 million).

The partners of SMG, Herb Schoenfeld, Harvey H. Mendelsohn, Robert Goldfarb, and Patricia Weiss will continue in their existing roles in the combined firm. “The addition of SMG, their partners, and all of their team members to our firm will have a significant impact on the combined firm as we continue to strive to better serve our clients and the communities we operate in through our growing practice,” said Janover MP Mark Goodman.

CliftonLarsonAllen Acquires Monaghan Group

Minneapolis-based CliftonLarsonAllen (FY12 revenue of $569.2 million) acquired the Monaghan Group, based in Charlotte, N.C. “Monaghan Group has garnered a strong reputation in the Southeast business community for many years as a result of providing exceptional service to its clients,” said CLA Charlotte Partner-in-Charge John Berens, CPA. “We are very pleased about this opportunity to continue our growth of the outsourcing practice and expand CLA’s services in Charlotte and the surrounding areas.”

More than 50 Monaghan Group professionals, including partners Beth Monaghan and Nancy Brown have joined CLA. The group will move into CLA’s Charlotte office.

 

 

Prager Metis Merges With New Jersey Firm

New York-based Prager Metis CPAs (FY12 net revenue of $32.3 million) said it’s enlarging its statewide presence through a merger with Springfield, N.J.-based Goldfinger, Block, Glickenhaus, Dinar. “It expands our footprint in New Jersey; it increases our size and the number of people we reach,” said Lori Roth, chief operating officer of Prager Metis’ Basking Ridge office, according to NJBiz.com.

“And for the GBGD clients, joining forces establishes a deeper breadth of support and services,” she said. “The merger provides stability in a very competitive New Jersey market, so it’s a good move for both firms.” Seven GBGD employees from Springfield will be relocating to the Prager Metis’ Basking Ridge office by the end of the month.

 

Long Named Partner at William Vaughn Co.

Jeffery H. Long has been admitted as a partner at the William Vaughn Co. (FY12 net revenue of $6.7 million) of Maumee, Ohio.

Long had been a principal in the tax department. He spends the majority of his time planning and consulting on various tax and business matters for construction and manufacturing clients.

IRS Briefly Exposes ‘Tens of Thousands’ of Social Security Numbers on Website

The IRS has exposed “tens of thousands” of Social Security numbers on a government website, according to the public interest group, Public.Resource.org.

The data breach relates to transactions made by nonprofit political groups, according to Atlantic magazine. The organization said it learned of the breach while working on an unrelated audit of an “improperly vetted shipment” of IRS data on DVDs and informed the agency, Fox News reported. The IRS shut down the site the next day. The group said the Social Security numbers were mostly those of donors, though some were also from people who prepared tax returns to furnish to the IRS. Public.Resource.org. founder Carl Malamud told FoxNews.com that roughly 100,000 Social Security numbers were exposed.

Hardy, Normand & Associes Joins Alliott Group

The Alliott Group has announced that the Montreal firm Hardy, Normand & Associés has joined the alliance of independent accounting, law and consulting firms. Hardy, Normand & Associés, with over 100 staff, is considered one of the best in Quebec, the Alliott Group said.

“The Alliott Group represents a tremendous tool, which will allow us to increase the quality of the services we offer our current clientele that might have needs requiring the contribution of a foreign professional” said Valérie Ménard associate partner, Tax Department. The Alliott Group has more than 180 member firms.

Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based Cendrowski Corporate Advisors (FY12 net revenue of $3.8 million) has joined CPAmerica International, a national association of independent CPA firms. MP James Martin said, “I am impressed by the breadth of expertise within the CPAmerica firms, which are very complimentary to our own expertise. The resources that the association has to support member teams are excellent.”
