The Profession Says Bon Voyage To An Industry Leader; Passion, People And Principles – The Maister Way

David Maister, industry veteran, consultant, author and presenter, officially took his “open” sign down in January to move on to the next phase of his life – enjoying retirement with his wife Kathy.

“After nearly 30 years of advising and writing about professional services, I have decided to retire. I no longer plan to consult, speak or write,” he writes on his final blog post at www.davidmaister.com.

“After traveling the world almost non-stop for these past three decades, my wife Kathy and I are delighted to begin exploring our own hometown of Boston,” he adds, and admits they are having a ball. “I don’t know why I didn’t do this years ago.”

IPA contacted Maister to see if he would be interested in one final interview, relating his personal experience as a professional transitioning into retirement, and he responded in typical Maister fashion. “I’m afraid that ‘retired’ is ‘retired,’ so I’ll pass on the interview idea.” Now that’s someone who lives up to the ideal of practicing what you preach.

We thank you, David, for all you have done on behalf of the profession, for the countless lives you have touched, and for the inspiration you have provided to help professional services firms around the world strive to always do better. We wish you and Kathy all the best in your retirement.
