Marcum And Philadelphia-based Margolis & Co. Plan Merger

Melville, N.Y.-based Marcum LLP (FY08 net revenue of $182.5 million) will acquire Bala Cynwyd, Pa.-based Margolis & Company on September 1.

“With our combined strengths and shared commitment to exceptional service, we can now offer our clients even greater resources across multiple disciplines,” says Jeffrey Weiner, MP of Marcum and Chairman/CEO of the Marcum Group.

According to the Philadelphia Business Journal, Margolis President David Glusman said the firm did hold talks with Edison, N.J.-based Amper, Politziner & Mattia (FY09 net revenue of $119.9 million) before Amper acquired Jenkintown-based Goldenberg Rosenthal last year. Glusman said the firm also entered major talks with another firm that did not pan out.

Allan Koltin, consultant, President and CEO of PDI, Global Inc., assisted both firms with the merger arrangements.

The entire 70-plus Margolis team will join Marcum. Effective with this transaction, Marcum will have more than 800 professionals, including 101 partners, in 12 locations in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Florida and Grand Cayman. Glusman will serve as PIC of the Philadelphia regional offices.

Marcum will now operate from the former Margolis offices in Bala Cynwyd, Pa. and Newtown, Pa.
